Virgin Media’s marquee drama series Blood aired for the first time last night, sponsored by wine brand Casillero del Diablo.
The show saw another step in the battle for differentiation in TV with the second episode shown immediately after, but only to Virgin TV customers through the Virgin on Demand channel.
The highly anticipated series has already been acquired by distributors in the UK and the US, and stars BAFTA nominee Adrian Dunbar and newcomer Carolina Main.
Set in rural Ireland, the six-part psychological crime thriller follows the saga of the Hogan family, an Irish household with strains and resentments bubbling just under the surface. After the sudden death of her mother, estranged youngest daughter Cat is called home.
This uncomfortable, unplanned reunion awakens demons from Cat’s past and shines a new, suspicious light on her mother’s death as she begins to suspect her father Jim’s involvement.
Written by Sophie Petzal and produced by Jonathan Fisher, the series has gained a lot of positive reaction so far with leading independent distributor all3media International already selling it to be shown in the US and Canada and Channel 5 and Virgin Media UK acquiring the rights to show it in Britain.
The series was also selected to showcase at the 28th Film Festival Cologne last night.
