Nothing ever stays the same and the bell may be tolling for two staples of British TV over recent years.
The finale of the Great British Bake Off dropped more than half a million viewers from 2018 to last night’s Final with an average of 6.9 million tuning into Channel 4.
Even that number though would look very attractive to Simon Cowell and ITV who’s flagship Saturday night show the X factor appears to be in terminal decline.
A move towards a Celebrity version, and the bringing on board of talent from Love Island has failed to spark the show which on Saturday recorded the lowest ever average of its 15 year run.
2.8 million tuned in to see the show which has long been a staple of ITV and Virgin Media One’s autumn Saturday schedule.
There are unlikely to be any knee jerk reaction to the drop in figures but executives will be taking heed ahead of recommissioning the shows for another go.
