The Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival celebrates its 25th year in 2019 and it has revealed a strong line up for when it takes over the city at the end of May.
Tommy Tiernan, Alison Spittle, Dara O’Briain and Fred Cooke lead a strong home team treading the boards in multiple venues while Phil Jupitus, Alan Davies and Lou Sanders will be among the star attractions from further afield.
At the programme launch there was still no sign of a headline sponsor this year, nor of a contribution from the Arts Council.
There is Government backing under the umbrella of Failte Ireland and the Ireland’s Ancient East brand but comedy remains in an unusual sport as regards the arts fraternity.
There is money from the Creative ireland programme while Coors Light are back on board as official beer partner and Mor Gin for those with more of a taste for spirits.
Today FM and Olytico are media partners but with the long heritage and proof of delivery for sponsors in years gone by including Smithwicks and Sky TV, it is somewhat strange, and not very funny that a major commercial backer has not been found.
