Nostalgia has been to the fore in music and theatre in recent times and now it is extending to the world of puppetry with the return to Monkstown in Dublin of long term residents, the cast of Wanderly Wagon.

The Lambert Puppet Theatre gave life to Ireland’s most beloved icons like Mr. Crow and Judge in a theatre to the rear of one of the big houses overlooking Dublin Bay in the suburb.

On September 21st The Monlstown International Puppet Festival will reveive a lot of memories.

“Puppetry offers all ages and families opportunities to engage, from formal talks to workshops, family shows and late evening acts,” said Festival Director Roger Duggan speaking at this morning’s launch of the Festival.

“Monkstown has a heritage of puppetry and is synonymous in people’s minds with puppetry. There is strong community buy-in for the project, with venues, community groups and the public offering strong support from the outset.”

Topping the bill are master puppeteers Louise Gold and Nigel Plaskitt who have between them transformed the face of puppetry worldwide. Gold started her career at the Jim Henson studio as none other than one of The Muppets puppeteers. She was also one of the core performers on The Netflix series ‘Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’.  Plaskitt’s puppeteering has been credited in Labyrinth, Doctor Who, Spitting Image and the beloved PG Tips Monkey.
