The Saoirse Ronan movie Ladybird has finally been given an Irish release date with cinema-goers able to put the date of February 23rd into their diaries.
Success at the Golden Globes and in nominations for the Oscars has lifted the movie’s profile and the starring role on Ronan has given it a particular resonance here.
It was surprising therefore that the release date had not yet been confirmed but Universal Pictures put that right on Friday ahead of Ronan’s appearance on the Graham Norton Show.

It is to be expected that ticket sales will be brisk, more so perhaps that the showing in the US which Ronan took her mother to after the movie was released.
She told Norton on Friday that there were only six people in the cinema and that they were on their phones but that her Mum loved it nevertheless.
