Virgin Media announced on Friday that it has entered into a 30 day consultation period with staff over the possibility of job losses.
The company currently employs 1,600 staff across its TV and Broadband services and there has been no indication of where a potential 65 losses could have to be made.
“We are entering a new phase of transformation to ensure continued revenue growth,” read a statement from the company.
“This involves making some difficult decisions which will impact a number of roles in the Virgin Media Ireland business.”
“It is envisaged that up to 65 roles may potentially be impacted and we have entered a 30-day consultation period with people impacted.”
The news prompted former Minister for Communications Denis Naughten to call on Government to support the media industry in difficult times.
There are fears that RTÉ will also be announcing a new round of redundancies this month as well, as traditional media cope with adjusting to the ever-changing world of media and entertainment.
