Weekend returns from Irish Cinema’s show that the two big musical hits of recent weeks are still going strong.

Bohemian Rhapsody was a huge hit on its opening weekend here taking in €695,000 and surged in week two with another €725,000.

It was a similar story in the UK with Box Office takings of over £10 million.

The film opened a week later in the US but already went straight in as the second biggest ever opening weekend for a musical racking up $50 million in returns, well ahead of A Star is Born which recorded $42 million on its first weekend and second only to Straight Outta Compton which delivered a little over $60 million back in 2015.

A Star is Born with Lady Gaga still took in €370,000 in Ireland last week despite now being out on release for five weeks.
